How it is calculated
CPC = ad spend ÷ number of clicks. It shows what one click on the ad costs, regardless of what the user does on the site afterward.
CPC is one step closer to results than CPM: a click means at least some level of interest, not just an impression. But it still doesn't guarantee a conversion — for that you need CPA (cost per action) or the final revenue per dollar spent.
A low CPC isn't automatically good news: cheap clicks from an untargeted audience or bots technically lower CPC without producing sales. CPC is best read alongside site conversion rate — only together do they show whether those clicks are paying off.
