How it is calculated

ROI = (revenue − automation cost) ÷ automation cost × 100%. Revenue per conversion = revenue ÷ number of conversions — shows how much a single completed email sequence earns on average.

Unlike a one-off newsletter, an automation funnel is a sequence set up once that runs automatically for every new subscriber: its cost is usually mostly a one-time setup plus an ongoing service subscription, not a per-email-sent charge.

Since an automation runs continuously, it's best to compute ROI over comparable periods (e.g. month by month) — comparing periods with different run lengths distorts the picture, especially the first month, when setup costs haven't been offset by accumulated conversions yet.
