How it is calculated
Required budget = audience size × target frequency ÷ 1000 × CPM. Audience size and frequency first give the total number of impressions (audience × frequency), which then converts into money via CPM — the same logic as the social ads budget calculator, but with frequency accounted for explicitly.
Remarketing usually targets a narrow audience already familiar with the brand (site visitors, abandoned carts), so it's often given a higher target frequency than broad-reach campaigns aimed at cold audiences — you don't want to miss someone who's already shown interest.
A remarketing audience's size changes over time: older visitors drop off lists (e.g. after 30 or 90 days) while new ones get added — the calculation gives the budget for a fixed audience snapshot, not for the whole campaign period as the audience refreshes.
