How it is calculated

Gross profit = revenue × (1 − cost of goods% ÷ 100). Operating profit = gross profit − revenue × operating expenses% ÷ 100. Net profit = operating profit × (1 − tax rate ÷ 100).

This is a simplified structure: a real P&L usually has more lines (depreciation, loan interest, other income and expenses shown separately), but for planning "roughly how much is left" this level of detail is usually enough.

Net margin = net profit ÷ revenue × 100 — shows how much net profit each unit of revenue produces under these assumptions.
