How it is calculated

Total fee = transfer amount × percentage rate ÷ 100 + fixed charge. This two-part structure is typical for bank transfers: the percentage scales with the amount, while the fixed part covers the bank's operating costs regardless of transfer size.

Because of the fixed part, the effective fee rate as a percentage of the amount is higher for small transfers and drops as the amount grows — for small transfers it can pay to look for a bank with a lower fixed charge, and for large ones, a lower percentage.

The calculation doesn't account for the gap between the bank's exchange rate and the market rate — when converting to another currency, that often adds a separate, hidden cost on top of the direct fee shown here.
