How it is calculated

Final amount = deposit amount × (1 + rate ÷ 100 ÷ m)^(m × term in years), where m is the number of capitalizations per year (12, 4, or 1). The more frequent the capitalization, the higher the final amount at the same nominal rate — that's the compounding effect.

Interest earned = final amount − deposit amount.

If the bank doesn't capitalize interest but pays it out separately (to a card or another account), use the simple-interest deposit calculator instead — without capitalization, income accrues linearly over time.
