How it is calculated
Patent cost = potential annual income × rate ÷ 100 × patent term ÷ 12. A patent doesn't have to run a full year — it can be taken for any number of months from 1 to 12 within a calendar year.
Potential annual income isn't your actual revenue — it's a fixed amount set by regional law for a specific line of business. It varies by region and activity; check the tax office website or the regional patent-tax law for your figure.
The calculation doesn't include the reduction of patent cost by paid insurance contributions (up to 100% for a solo operator, up to 50% with employees) — that relief is applied separately after computing the base cost.
