Pipe and round bar weight calculator

Choose the profile type, enter the diameter, length and metal density (defaults to steel, 7850 kg/m³). The calculator works out the mass per meter and for the whole batch.

Steel — 7850, aluminum — 2700, copper — 8960, brass — 8500

This calculation is for informational purposes only and does not replace advice from a qualified professional. Formulas and rates may not fit your exact situation — double-check the figures before making decisions.

How it is calculated

Solid bar cross-section = π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Pipe cross-section = π × wall thickness × (outer diameter − wall thickness) — this is the exact ring-area formula, not an approximation.

Mass per meter = cross-section area (in m²) × metal density. Mass of the whole batch = mass per meter × length.

Density is entered by hand rather than picked from a list of steel grades: the real density of a specific alloy can differ slightly from the reference value, and the calculator should stay accurate for any metal, not just typical carbon steel.
