How it is calculated
Workload = hours of work assigned ÷ available working hours × 100%. A value of 100% means the assigned work exactly matches the available time.
Workload above 100% means more tasks are assigned than there's time to do them — not just a statistical quirk, but an early sign of burnout risk or missed deadlines if it continues. Workload noticeably below 100% for a sustained period can mean a temporary lull, or it can mean headcount is padded relative to the actual amount of work.
This is a per-person metric — for the equivalent calculation at the department or team level, use the headcount norm calculator, which solves the reverse problem: how many employees a known workload requires, rather than how loaded an already-hired employee is.
