How it is calculated

Contributions amount = salary × contribution rate ÷ 100. Full cost of the employee to the employer = salary + contributions amount.

This is a fundamentally different item from income tax: income tax is withheld FROM the employee's salary and reduces their take-home pay, while employer social contributions are paid ON TOP of salary, out of the employer's own money, and the employee never sees them on a pay stub.

In practice, contributions often consist of several separate funds with different rates and different income caps (the rate can drop after a certain cumulative income threshold), so the effective blended rate isn't necessarily constant — it can shift over the year as an employee's cumulative income grows. This calculator uses a single averaged rate for simplicity — check current rules and caps for an exact budget.
