How it is calculated
Hiring ROI = (value created − hiring cost) ÷ hiring cost × 100.
"Value created" is the hardest part to pin down: for a sales role it might be revenue from closed deals; for a support role, an estimate of time saved or losses avoided. The more precisely you estimate it, the more precise the ROI.
The metric ignores time — a 200% ROI over one year and a 200% ROI over three years aren't the same efficiency. When comparing roles, normalize to the same evaluation period (e.g. first-year ROI).
