Night shift pay calculator

Enter the employee's hourly rate, the number of night hours worked, and the night-work pay multiplier. The calculator works out the extra pay amount.

A multiplier of 1.2–1.4 is common, but the exact minimum is set by local law and internal company rules — use the multiplier that applies to you

How it is calculated

Extra pay = hourly rate × night hours × pay multiplier. The multiplier shows how many times an hour of night work is paid compared to a regular hour — usually a more modest premium than for working a day off or holiday.

What counts as 'night time' is set by law or internal rules — a typical range is roughly 10pm–6am, but the exact boundaries can differ. Hours falling in that range are what you should enter as night hours for the calculation.

This formula computes just the extra pay for the night-work premium, not the full shift's earnings — it's added to regular hourly pay as a separate line. Use the separate holiday work pay calculator, with a usually higher multiplier, for working a day off or holiday.
