How it is calculated
Total per diem = daily rate × number of days on the trip, including the departure and return day under most rules. It reimburses the employee's day-to-day trip expenses (meals and incidentals), not pay for time worked.
The daily per diem rate isn't a universal figure — a company can set any amount in its internal policy, but often follows a tax-exempt threshold that varies by country and by trip type (domestic vs international). That's why it's an editable field, not a constant.
Per diem doesn't replace preserved average earnings for working days on the trip — that's a separate payment, computed by the separate calculator.
