How it is calculated

Weekly hours needed = positions staffed at once × coverage hours per day × days per week — the total work-hour demand that needs covering.

Employees needed = weekly hours needed ÷ weekly hour norm per employee, rounded up — the minimum headcount for full coverage if everyone works full-time.

The calculation doesn't include a buffer for vacations, sick leave and turnover — in practice, real staffing is usually 10–20% above this bare minimum so the schedule doesn't break when someone is out.
