How it is calculated
Lost time cost = participants × training hours × average hourly rate — what the company effectively pays for employee time while they're not doing their regular job.
Total training cost = course fee + trainer fee + materials + lost time cost. This component is often overlooked, though for highly paid specialists it can exceed the direct cost of the training itself.
If the training is async (a recorded course taken in free time) or partly outside work hours, adjust the training hours in the calculation — count only time actually pulled away from work.
