How it is calculated
Productivity = volume of completed work ÷ hours worked. The metric only works where the output can be measured in comparable units — mixing different task types into one number (say, "5 simple tickets plus 2 complex ones" counted as "7 units") distorts the comparison.
Unlike revenue per employee, which counts money and works for comparing a whole company, this metric counts physical output for a specific role and suits comparing shifts, periods, or employees doing comparable work — cases where revenue per person is too blunt a proxy.
Productivity depends heavily on the mix of task complexity in the sample — comparing periods with a different work mix (say, a month dominated by simple requests versus one with complex ones) isn't quite fair unless complexity is accounted for separately.
